Berkswell Traditional Farmstead Meats is Warwickshire’s only accredited Traditional Breeds Meat Marketing retailer.

The Traditional Breed Meat Marketing Company was originally established by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust to provide an outlet to retail meats from rare breeds of British Livestock, working within the strategy of conservation through consumption. Older breeds of animals had fallen out of favour as they do not suit intensive farming and food methods processes. They mature slower, have varied dietary needs and the carcasses are different shapes and sizes requiring individualised butchering techniques. This combination of factors meant they were incompatible with the conformity, volume and prices based needs of supermarkets.

We pay a premium price to producers ensuring the increased efforts they invest to produce these fine breeds of animals is rewarded. Each animal carcass is also supplied with a certificate of authenticity which provides full traceability. Farmers are largely local to ensure animals need not travel long distances and we use two local independent abattoirs.

As outlined above traditional breed livestock requires individualised approaches to farming and butchering and explores the rich heritage of British livestock farming. Each breed has different eating qualities and until you try this kind of food you will not experience how meat used to taste, full of flavour.
